Athena Relief Panel
A pattern book carved into one sheet. Zigzag, rope, dots and comb, laid in blocks that butt against each other, the way a plasterer would have done it by hand.

Athena is built from six or seven motifs, each in its own rectangle, the rectangles stacked and offset so no two borders line up. In the white catalogue colour it looks like carved plaster; the same sheet in a mid-grey reads as stone.
The blocks matter more than the motifs. If you cut a sheet mid-block the wall loses the quilted look and becomes a repeating border, so plan the cuts on the block lines, which are already there in the relief.
Seven motifs, one sheet
Zigzag, a rope twist, a dot field, a comb, a herringbone and two border runs. They are cut to different depths, which is what stops the sheet reading as an embossed pattern: the eye finds the deep blocks first and the shallow ones later.

Good for
- Hotel and restaurant feature walls, especially in a light colour
- Reception fronts and lift lobbies where the wall is the artwork
- Ceilings in a double-height space: the blocks read from four metres up
- Walls where a plaster or stone effect is wanted with a fraction of the weight
Not for
- Long corridors seen in perspective: the blocks fight the perspective lines
- Small rooms under 6 m², where a single sheet fills the wall
- Anywhere the relief will be touched regularly

Questions we get asked
Will one sheet fill a wall?
At 1200 × 2950 it covers 3.5 m², so a standard feature wall takes one or two sheets. Anything wider needs a joint, and the block lines are where to put it.
Is the pattern repeat obvious?
Only if you set two sheets side by side without offsetting them. Offset by a block, which is how it was designed, and the repeat stops being findable.
Can it be painted?
It can, and some clients do paint it to match a wall. Paint fills the shallow motifs first, so use a thin coat and keep the deep blocks clear.
Is it fragile at 5 mm?
It handles like a thick card. The relief does not create weak lines, and offcuts bend rather than snap.
Which colour suits a dark room?
White or off-white. A dark relief loses the shadow that makes the motifs legible, and the wall goes flat in low light.
