Wood Bark Panel

Bark at the scale of a fallen trunk. 1500 × 750, which is small enough to keep the ridges in scale on a column and large enough to cover a wall without a seam every metre.

The ridges run horizontally, splitting and rejoining the way bark does on a mature tree, with the darker valleys and the paler plate tops that you get on oak or sweet chestnut. The catalogue colour is a red-brown that goes almost black in the valleys.

This is the most literal texture in the series, and the most divisive. On a lodge or a restaurant with a timber scheme it works immediately. In a white minimal interior it looks like a prop, which is a design decision rather than a product problem.

Ridges, not lines

A printed bark pattern fails because the ridges are all the same width. Here they vary from 3 to 12 mm, and each plate sits at a slightly different height, so the light finds a different answer every few centimetres.

Wood Bark texture at 1:1, split ridges and dark valleys

Good for

  • Lodges, cabins and rural hospitality interiors
  • Restaurant and bar walls in a timber-and-fire scheme
  • Columns and chimney breasts, where the 750 mm sheet wraps a normal structural size
  • Exterior elevations on a ventilated cavity

Not for

  • Minimal white interiors, where it reads as pastiche
  • Walls that get wiped: the valleys hold dust
  • Large flat fields, because 750 mm is a lot of joints

Around a column

At 5 mm with a 3–4 mm relief it takes a 300 mm radius across the ridges and rather less along them. On a 400 mm column, four sheets and four folds do the whole thing with no trim.

Fitting it

Four steps, and the third one is the one that goes wrong.

01 SurfaceFlat to 3 mm over 2 m, dry, dust free. Prime porous substrates.
02 AdhesivePolymer adhesive, notched trowel, full bed. Not dots.
03 Set outWork from a datum line, not the floor. Dry-lay one row first.
04 JointButt tight, or a 2 mm shadow gap. Roll the face after fitting.

Questions we get asked

Is the sheet really only 750 mm wide?

Yes. The mould is 1500 × 750 and the pattern was cut at that scale on purpose, because a bark texture stretched over 3000 mm stops looking like bark.

Can I run the ridges vertically?

Yes, and on a tall narrow wall it often looks better. The sheet is not directional in manufacture, only in appearance.

Is it suitable outdoors?

Yes on a drained, ventilated facade. The colour is stable and the relief does not hold water on a vertical wall.

What colour is it, exactly?

A red-brown with near-black valleys. In shade it reads as dark chocolate; in direct sun the plate tops go almost orange.

Do you have a lighter version?

The factory has made it in a grey-brown, but it is not a stock colour. Minimum run is 300 m² and about 25 days.
