CNC Carving Wood Panel
Eight carved patterns, cut into the mould rather than the panel. What you get is the relief itself, not a photograph of a carving printed onto a flat surface.

The set runs from near-abstract to near-literal. Block Cut Wood is a fine square grid with a stray diagonal. Leaves and Apple Leaves are leaf forms carved into plain-sawn timber. Water Cube and Wood Cube are the same wave seen at two depths. Slicing Wood and Big Slicing are the end grain of a sawmill. Bamboo Mix is a crosshatch of fine ribs.
All eight are moulded, so the relief is constant across the sheet and the same from the first panel to the last. That is the difference between this and a carved timber panel, where the depth depends on who was holding the tool and what the grain was doing that afternoon.
Depth is the product
The relief runs from about 1 mm on Block Cut Wood to nearly 4 mm on Wood Cube. Below 1 mm the pattern stops reading at three metres; above 4 mm the sheet stops being flexible enough to wrap a column. Everything here sits inside that window.

Behind a bar
The installation shot is a back-bar screen in warm light, with the wave pattern picking up the downlights. This is where the carved patterns do best: a surface that is only ever seen from one side, at one distance, with a light source above it.
Installed, cnc carving wood
Good for
- Bar fronts, reception desks and back-bar screens
- Hotel corridors where a wall has to survive a trolley every morning
- Ceilings in a double-height space, where the relief reads from below
- Feature walls where a printed pattern would look flat under downlights
Not for
- Small rooms: the patterns need distance to resolve
- Bathrooms and kitchens, because the relief holds dust
- Tight radii below about 300 mm
The eight patterns
Block Cut Wood (MBW-JM), Leaves (MBW-BYJ), Water Cube (MBW-SLF), Apple Leaves (MBW-PGY), Slicing Wood (MBW-CM), Big Slicing (MBW-DCM), Wood Cube (MBW-MLF) and Bamboo Mix (MBB-MIX). All eight come in the colour of the sheet; the pattern is the variable, not the finish.

Questions we get asked
Are these carved by hand?
No. The master pattern was carved and then a steel mould was cut from it by CNC. Every sheet that comes off that mould is identical, which is the point.
Which pattern shows least dirt?
Block Cut Wood, because the grid is shallow and the recesses are narrow. Wood Cube is the worst: the valleys are deep and wide.
Can I mix patterns on one wall?
People do, usually as a band of one pattern above a plain field of another. Keep the sheet edges aligned and the relief depth similar, or the wall will look stitched.
Do you do custom patterns?
Yes, from a drawing or a physical master, at 500 m² and around 35 days including the mould.
Which one is closest to a Japanese carved screen?
Leaves and Apple Leaves. Bamboo Mix is closer to a Chinese lattice, and Slicing Wood is closer to sawn timber than to carving.
