Cross Weave Panel

A basket weave at 1:1. Strands cross every 6 mm, and the relief is deep enough that the gap between them holds a shadow all day, whatever the light is doing.

Cross Weave is the finest pattern in the series and the one that behaves most like a textile. Two warps over two wefts, with the warp sitting proud. In the catalogue colour it is a pale sand that goes almost beige in warm light and almost grey in daylight.

This is the texture to choose when the wall needs to be quiet. It does not photograph as anything much from across a room, which is exactly why it works in a hotel where every other surface is already talking.

Fine enough to read as cloth

The crossing is 6 mm, so at a normal viewing distance the eye stops resolving individual strands and reads the sheet as a woven surface. That is the same mechanism as grasscloth, minus the seams that come with a 900 mm roll.

In a coffee bar

The installation shot is a service counter with a window on one side. Morning sun rakes across the weave and puts a shadow into every gap; by afternoon the wall is flat and pale. Both readings work, which is not true of most relief panels.

Installed, cross weave

Good for

  • Hotel bedrooms, corridors and any wall that should not shout
  • Retail interiors where a textile look is wanted but the wall gets cleaned
  • Ceilings, on a ventilated frame
  • Large flat walls on a budget, because the sheet is 1200 × 3000 with no pattern matching

Not for

  • Exteriors in driving rain, unless the facade is drained and ventilated
  • Feature walls that need a bold graphic statement
  • Sharp external corners without a trim piece

Questions we get asked

How does Cross Weave differ from Rattan Weave?

Rattan is a herringbone on the diagonal with a deeper, rounder strand. Cross Weave is a straight basket weave at half the relief. Rattan reads as cane; Cross Weave reads as cloth.

Is it hard to keep clean?

No. The gaps are 1 mm wide, so a vacuum brush takes dust out and a damp cloth handles the rest. It is easier than painted plasterboard in a food environment.

Can I use it on a ceiling?

Yes. At 6.5 kg/m² it hangs on a standard grid or a timber batten frame, and the weave reads well from below because the shadow is already there.

Does the weave run in a direction?

It does, and it is subtle. Keep every sheet the same way up; rotate one by 90° and the light catches it differently along the joint.

What colours are stocked?

The pale sand shown. White and a warm grey are available on a 300 m² production run.
