Circle Wire Panel

Rope, coiled into spirals and pressed flat. From two metres it reads as sisal; from arm’s length you can follow every turn of the coil.

The pattern is a scatter of overlapping circles, each one built from a continuous coil of about seven turns at roughly 1 mm pitch. Nothing lines up across the sheet, which is deliberate: a grid would look manufactured and this one does not.

In the catalogue colour it is a warm grey, close to unbleached linen. That is the version that photographs well and the version most orders are for. Anything darker loses the coil detail under normal lighting, because the relief is shallow and the shadow does the work.

Coil, pitch, overlap

Three things make this pattern work: the constant pitch of the coil, the soft rounding where one circle rides over another, and the fact that the circles are not the same size. Blow the page up to 1:1 and you can count the turns.

Good for

  • Hotel corridors and lift lobbies where the wall needs to hold up close
  • Reception and bar fronts that want relief without a pattern
  • Powder rooms and small interiors, where a bold texture is the point
  • Over existing tile, since the relief hides the grout lines

Not for

  • Long walls seen only from four metres: the circles read as noise
  • Anywhere the panel will be wiped down daily
  • Tight radii below 200 mm

02 AdhesivePolymer adhesive, notched trowel, full bed. Not dots.
03 Set outWork from a datum line, not the floor. Dry-lay one row first.
04 JointButt tight, or a 2 mm shadow gap. Roll the face after fitting.

Questions we get asked

Does the pattern repeat?

Yes, at 1200 mm, but because the circles are a scatter rather than a grid the repeat is hard to find on a wall. Set the joints vertically and it disappears.

What does it feel like?

Like a coarse woven mat under the fingers. The coil ridges are about 1 mm high, enough to feel clearly and not enough to catch on clothing.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

Yes, sealed. The low points between the coils are the place dust and soap collect, so in a shower enclosure the lighter colourway is a better choice than anything dark.

Can this be made in another colour?

Stock is the warm grey shown. Custom colour runs at 300 m² and about 25 days, matched to a physical sample rather than a screen value.

How does it compare with Circle Wire in real rope?

Real rope is a fire and cleaning problem on a wall. This is the same visual idea as a 4 mm mineral sheet, A2-s1,d0, and it can be washed.
