Square Line Stone Panel
Square-section ribs, flat on top and sharp in the valley. The most architectural of the linear group and the least forgiving: there is nowhere for a bad joint to hide.

Technical data sheet, MBFXS (PDF, 0.8 MB)·Colour card, 106 surfaces in four series (PDF, 10.4 MB)
Ribs about 18 mm wide with a flat top, a 2 mm chamfer and a square valley between. The face is a fine grey stone with a slight grain, so each rib top reads as a separate strip of stone rather than as part of a moulded profile.
Eight millimetres on both sizes, 580 and 1000 wide, 9 kg per square metre. That is the heaviest of the line group and the reason the 580 exists: on a lift car or a column, a narrow sheet wraps without fighting you, and the joints land on the valleys. It is bought as stone wall panels interior designers can set out to the millimetre, since square ribs show every error the installer makes.
Sharp is the point
A square valley is a hard shadow, and a hard shadow shows every deviation in the substrate. On a fair-faced wall it is spectacular; on a wall that has been skimmed by someone in a hurry it is a map of the trowel. Check the wall with a 2 m straight edge before you order.

Reception, then lift
The reception wall is the 1000 sheet, vertical, with the joints in the valleys and a shadow gap at the floor. The lift car is the 580, wrapped in four pieces, and the narrow sheet is what makes the corners possible without a visible trim.
Installed, square line stone
Good for
- Office receptions and boardrooms
- Lift cars, in the 580 width
- Columns, four pieces to a 600 mm column
- Walls that have been properly plastered and will be lit from the side
Not for
- Walls with a poor substrate; the square valley shows every hollow
- Floors
- Curves tighter than a 600 mm radius
Grey first
The stock is this pale grey; the card adds a chalk, a sand and a graphite. Square ribs suit grey better than cream, because the shadow is the pattern and grey gives the shadow more to work with.

Questions we get asked
Why two widths?
The 580 is for columns and lift interiors, where a narrow sheet bends and joints on the valley. The 1000 is for walls.
Can I get a deeper rib?
Not in this profile. The 8 mm sheet is already the practical limit for a square valley; go deeper and the rib tops start to dish.
How visible is a joint?
Almost invisible if it lands in a valley and the ribs align. Put it on a rib top and it shows at three metres.
Is it suitable over plasterboard?
Yes, if the board is screwed tight and the joints are filled flush. The sheet is 9 kg and will not pull a board down.
